Cute Blog Award....For Me?

I always feel so honored when I'm nominated for a blog award.  Like, "wow, someone is actually remembering me and my little blog!"  It's a great feeling...

I was nominated for this adorable award by Holly from Ulta Is My Candy Store.  I randomly stumbled on Holly's and have been absorbing her well-written words and fun reviews for a few months now.  Just so you know, Holly knows her stuff about make-up and if you ever have a CoverGirl related question, she is your go-to.  Trust me.  So, if you haven't done so already, check out her blog!!

1.  What is your go-to make-up brand?

Okay, this is a tough question.  For powder/foundation I would say Clinique or Estee Lauder.  Their products never make me break out and I love how long lasting their foundations are.  For eye shadow I would definitely pick Urban Decay.  Beautiful colors, long lasting formula and extremely pigmented tones.

2.  What was your favorite fashion trend of 2011?

Without a doubt I would say maxi dresses.  I think I ended up buying just over 8 of them and wore them all summer long.  Can't not wait to pull them out for Bali in the fall!!

3.  What is your favorite dessert?  

Mud Pie.  (Or as restaurants like to call it Mocha Khalua Ice Cream Pie).  It's delicious.

4.  Favorite color?

Red.  Need I say more?

5.  What is your middle name?

Marie 

6.  What's the last song you listened to?

Big Blue Wave by Hey Ocean.  (They're a Vancouver based band and if you haven't checked them out you definitely should.)

7.  Cats or Dogs?

Ah, tough question.  I love both equally.  Allan though, is allergic to cats and our condo doesn't allow for any pets so, alas, I'm pet-less.

Something you didn't know about me?  I am deathly afraid of flying.  I don't know what it is exactly because I'm not afraid of heights but the idea of flying makes me panic.  I am extremely nervous about our honeymoon to Bali in September because of the long flights....

Blog Award: The Nail Polish Tag

Yay yay yay...it's been so long since I received a blog award and I am especially loving this one BECAUSE I've never seen it before.  So, congrats me.....HA

Thanks again to the lovely Mandy from MandysSecrets for nominating me.  Mandy has become one of my closest blogger friends because we both love cosmetics AND both danced for years and years.  She is an extremely talented blogger and if you haven't done so already CHECK OUT HER BLOG.

Okay, so for the Nail Polish Tag I am to answer a few questions so happy reading!!

1. How many polishes do you own?
Okay, so I don't have as many polishes as I do lipsticks BUT the count is just under 50 bottles.

2. What is your favorite nail polish brand?
This is a tough one because there are two.  For an inexpensive drug store brand I choose Revlon.  Their polishes last quite a long time on the nail and you don't need to touch up as often.  However, for an expensive option my pick is Chanel without a doubt.  Sigh, their polishes are gorgeous, long lasting and dry almost perfectly.

3. Do you like or hate crackle nail polish?
Love love love it.  At first, I wasn't too sure how I felt about it but then I got a manicure with silver polish and black crackle on top and it looked delightful.  I am definitely a convert that's for sure.

4. What was your first nail polish brand?
Ha, okay honestly I have NO idea.  However, I do remember the color (red) because my mom painted my nails when I was three for a ballet recital.  The brand though, I don't have a clue.

5. If you created a nail polish line, what would you name it?
Oooooo this is a tough one.  Okay, how about RED.  Red is my favorite color and I like names that are short and sweet.  However, it might be confusing if there was an actual red polish in the collection than it would be called RED Red.  I think I need to rethink this.....

6. What nail polish color does not compliment you?
I dislike green polishes immensely.  I never wear green (clothing, makeup, otherwise) so even seeing myself with green nails is very strange.

7. Name two of your best nail art friends.
Hands down I look for advice on nails from both Mandy at MandysSecrets and Steph from Imperfect Paint.  These ladies know everything there is to know about nails and honestly, if I ever need advice (which is often) or have a nail mishap (all the time), I seek their knowledge!!


8. What was the best nail polish gift you've ever received?
Allan (the BF) surprised me with a limited collection from Chanel (the black and golds) a year ago and it definitely stole the show.  Not only was I loving these colors BUT he also bought me the eye shadows to match.  I was a very happy girl.


9. Make a speech thanking the blogger that gave you this award.

2 Awards...For Me???

I LOVE being nominated for awards.  Whenever I get a little notification about it I get all giddy!  I was nominated for two different awards by two very special blog friends of mine: Tara from Haute Lunch and Mandy from MandysSecrets.  Both ladies write beautifully fun blogs and I read them religiously.  Not only are the both extremely talented writers but their posts are amazing.  I always click on their blogs KNOWING I'm going to be learning something special and they never disappoint.

1. I am beyond obsessed with reality TV.  Shows such as Hell's Kitchen, LA Ink, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, What Not To Wear, Say Yes To The Dress and Toddlers and Tiaras definitely top the list

2. I can not paint my nails at all.  I was asked to do a post about nail polish a while back and, honestly, I am so bad at painting my nails that I still haven't written it

3. I would give up my condo, my career and all my belongings to be able to travel the whole world.  First stop would be France and Italy without a doubt

4. I wish I was a crafty person.  I look at things that people create with their hands and am so jealous because I am not talented that way.  However, thanks to my crafty friend, Bronwen, we're going to be planning my vintage DIY wedding by undergoing some major crafty things....soooo pumped

5. I am very intrigued by ghosts and spirits.  I would love to tour Alcatraz and even stay at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast....Yes, I am crazy....ha

6. I am trying to lose a little bit of weight (10 pounds) and it is the hardest thing I've ever done.

7.  I quit smoking about two years ago and I still miss it and think about it often

YAY for Blog Awards

Here is a list of my favorite (well, right now anyway) beauty products:

1.  Batiste Tropical Dry Shampoo - I have tried many many many different types of dry shampoo but always go back to this one because it smells like coconut/pineapple, it does a fab job removing the excess oil from my very thick hair and it only costs about $8.99 CAN.

2.  Avon Smooth Minerals Blush in Blushing Mauve - If it's good enough for Reese Witherspoon (who supposedly wears it all the time) it's definitely good enough for me.  I love this blush because of it's gorgeous pinky rose tone and the fact that it adds the perfect amount of color without being overbearing.

3.  Smashbox Cream Liner Palette - Amazing colors right?  These liners are cream based so they go on very smooth and have great lasting power.  This palette has a price tag of about $35 CAN but I only paid $17 at the duty-free shop.

4.  LORAC Starry-Eyed Baked Eye Shadow Trio in Superstar - Sigh, once this brown trio is combined it creates a gorgeous bronze smokey eye which is perfect for daytime.  Plus, LORAC is an amazing brand.  Not only is the quality outstanding but the color will last all day, on your eyelids, without any creasing.

5.  Gosh Cosmetics Giant Sun Powder in 001 - I can NOT stop raving about this product!!!  It has literally become my go-to bronzer because it gives a great sun-kissed glow AND has gorgeous little gold flecks that seem to fall perfectly on your cheekbones.  Ladies, if you're near a Shoppers Drug Mart, go there and buy this palette...

6. MAC Cremesheen Glass in Partial to Pink - I am definitely a gloss girl and pink tones are always what I gravitate towards.  I particularly like this one because the color is perfect, it doesn't have a sticky feeling and it has a sponge applicator.  (I despise any other applicator for gloss.)

7.  Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara - I bought this on a whim as I was looking for a mascara that ACTUALLY made my lashes look huge and I am so happy I spent the money.  This one definitely lives up to the hype.  It has a huge mascara wand which separates every lash and adds a ton of volume to each and every lash, making your eyes look huge.  It's worth the money ladies.

8.  Revlon Luxurious Color Satin Eye Shadow Platinum Glimmer - Aside from bronze eye colors, my other faves are either grey or silver.  This one is fab because it combines both the grey and silver in one shadow.  Once on, it maintains its grey tone and adds a punch of glitter.  Not bad for $5.

9.  Clinique Moisture Sheer Tint SPF 15 in Fair - When it comes to summer, tinted moisturizers are the way to go.  This one is great because it actually provides quite a lot of coverage but still moisturizers your face.  Also, it's one of the only ones that doesn't make me breakout in the sun.

10.  Revlon Lustrous Lipstick Creme in Pink in the Afternoon - I was cleaning out my vanity table this past week and stumbled upon this forgotten pink lipstick.  Ever since I discovered it (Tuesday) I have been wearing this non-stop.  This pink color looks fabulous on my lips because it matches my fair skin tone perfectly.  I will definitely be buying this again.

A Blog Award....For Me?????

Oh, Amanda, you're awesome!  Thanks so much for the tag, lady.  Amanda, for those who don't know, is the author of the blog What A Bind.  She is an extremely talented writer and I always find myself very eager to read her posts.  Thanks again lady!

So, here are ten facts about me that you may or may not know:

1. I am completely and utterly afraid of the dark.  This is supposed to be the part where I tell you some sob story about why but, to be honest, I have no idea.  However, I have two nightlights in my condo and whenever Allan is away on a business trip, I sleep with my bedside lamp on.

2. As a kid, I was beyond obsessed with rocks and minerals.  Honestly, I would go on little scavenger hunts trying to find as many neat looking rocks as I could.  Oh, I also used to collect stamps.  Hahaha, I sound so dorky.

3. I write short stories in my spare time.  (If I ever have any spare time).  I've been writing for many years and have written anonymously for a writing website.

4. I can't live without my flat iron.  I've tired, once or twice, and my hair, though short, became ever so puffy.  Never ever ever again.

5. I have never camped before.  I get a lot of slack about this from my friends AND they're always trying to get me and Allan to go camping, but so far I've yet to take the plunge.

6. I love classical music.  I know this comes from my ballet training when I was younger, but I still really like to listen to it.  Some of my faves are Tchaikovsky (obviously), Pachelbel and Vivaldi

7. I am never late.  Ever.  In fact, punctuality is one of my biggest strengths.  My friends will say that I am always early BUT it's better to early than late.

8.  I never answer my cell phone.  I sometimes wonder why I have one but then I think about all the times I use it for Facebook and such but for some reason, I just never reach into my bag to actually answer it when it rings.  (Sorry everyone...you now know the truth.)

9. I dislike exercise.  I'm not too sure if I said this the last time I received a blog award BUT I have no problem saying it again.  I really dislike exercise.  In fact, I would much rather take a very large pill in the morning OR drink a gross tasting shake if it provided the same results as exercise.

10. I HATE bugs.  I have a major issue with creepy crawly things and weird flying creatures.  Nature and I are not one.

9. I am the worst bathtub cleaner in the world. I'm very fortunate that my man cleans the all of our bathrooms
10. Last but not least, I am up every morning at the crack of dawn by choice. Yes, even on weekends
