Beauty Bargains: Makeup Sales I Have to Share

I've been a naughty girl by giving my credit card a workout this past weekend.

A Summer Avon Haul

Guess what?  I started selling Avon/Mark products!!  It's funny, I've been doing it a while and totally forgot to share it with you.  So, it's no surprise that my recent haul would be Avon/Mark.

As you all know, I really like Mark and Avon products.  I know I've blogged about multiple items numerous times but there's really a good reason for it: Their products are inexpensive and remarkably good quality.  No where else, that I've seen, can you get three nail polishes for $6 or a full skin care line for under $30.  Like I said, it's a fabulous line for people that don't want to spend a lot of money but still want great quality.

Here's what I purchased:

From left to right: Avon Smooth Minerals Radiant Veil in Pink Radiance (Illuminating Face Powder), Avon Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in Kicked Up Coral, Avon Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in Pinktastic, Mark Berry Grand Super Exfoliating Beads, Avon Nail Enamel in Mambo Melon, Avon Nail Enamel in Sunshine, Avon Nail Enamel in Mocha, Avon Nail Enamel in Ballerina, Scentini Eau De Toilette Spray in Rose Fizz and Scentini Eau De Toilette Spray in Plum Twist.

I was soooo excited for the Scentini Fragrances because they were newly launched, only cost $9.99 each AND they spray on like a dry oil which makes for a longer lasting scent.  Both scents are gorgeous but I am seriously loving the Plum Twist.  It smells like you're standing under a plum tree.  It's so gorgeous and summery.

Of the haul though, the items I was most excited to receive are:

The lipsticks.  From left to right: Pinktastic and Kicked Up Coral.  So, ever since I saw Elisha Cuthbert sporting the new Joe Fresh Fuscia Matte Lip Color, I had wanted to get a bright pink tone for myself.  However, every Superstore I visited was completely sold out of the lipstick.  So, for a little bit less than Joe Fresh ($4.99) I decided to get this lipstick.  I am so wearing this to work tomorrow!

The Exfoliating Beads.   I have been eyeing this product for quite some time and yet never bought it until now.  This is such a great skin care item for those that adore their cleanser but still need to use a scrub daily or even weekly.  Add a little scoop of this mixture to your cleanser and you have your very own scrub, without having to buy a separate product.  These exfoliating beads are made with rice, corn, cranberry, apricot and pomegranate so you don't feel bad about putting them on your face AND it's not too gritty so it won't irritate your skin.  Such a bargain at $12.

The Nail Polishes.  Of all the polishes I have I don't have any coral tones so Mambo Melon (first on the left) was my first choice.  Since they were 3 for $6, I also got Mocha (third from the left) and Ballerina (fourth from the left).  My mom purchased a couple too and gave the Sunshine (second from the left) to me.  YAY.

I am loving my new Avon things and can't wait to do a FOTD with the new lipstick.

A Gorgeous Pink for Every Budget

Pink is my favorite lip color.  I adore pink because it looks fabulous with a smoky eye, can be worn to the office and out for a night on the town and it looks great with every outfit from casual to formal.  I like pink lipsticks/glosses so much that I have over 25 different shades.

I wish I could say that I don't have a problem and I use all of my 25 tubes frequently.  However, this is not the case at all.  Last night, I went through the dreaded third drawer of my vanity table.  I say dreaded because I throw absolutely everything in this drawer.  (Packages I've ordered and am trying to hide from Allan, duplicate products, etc.)

 While scouring the drawer, I stumbled across 5 tubes of lipstick/glosses that all had a very similar hue.  From left to right: Avon Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in Sparkling Warm Rose, Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Negligee Pink, ELF Super Shiny Lip Shine in Pink Kiss, Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 in Milly Pink and Mark Glossblossom Ripening Lip Tint.

Though they look very similar in their packages, you can definitely see the differences between them all from the swatches.  From left to right: Avon, Dior, ELF, Clinique and Mark.  (Quick note: The Mark Glossblossom is a color changing product.  As you can see, the color hasn't really changed while being on my hand.  The product does, though, change to be a pale pink with my body chemistry.)

OKAY, here's where it gets rather amusing.  After taking a series of pictures with each of the products on my lips I realized that they all look verrrry much the same.  See for yourself:....

I know right?  Allan was laughing as he was taking the pictures saying "why do you have so many of the same product?"  I must say, after looking at the pictures I have to agree with him a bit.  

What are the differences you ask?  Why not just buy ELF instead of Dior?  Well, for me and my lipglosses/lipsticks, it comes down to what a product feels like on my lips.  So, my ratings are as follows:

1. Dior Gloss: This one takes the ribbon!  Gorgeous color, long lasting shine and not at all sticky on my lips.

2. Avon Lipstick: I love Avon!!!  Great color, super shimmery and very moisturizing.

3. Clinique Milly Pink: Stands out because it has a very slight fuschia undertone.  Plus, it's long lasting.

4. ELF Gloss: Very glossy and shiny but not that long lasting.  It does moisturize your lips though.

5. Mark Glossblossom: This fell flat for me.  It takes a good 10 minutes for it to change color and by that time, I would have applied something else.

Mark Ibiza Sol Limited Edition Collection

Limited edition makeup/skincare collections always make me happy and nervous all at the same time.  Happy because it's something brand-new and nervous because the products might be all sold out before I get them.  I was, however, lucky enough to snag a couple products from Mark's new summer line, Ibiza Sol, without an issue.

Not only are the products fabulous but the marketing is superb as well.  They've campaigned the Ibiza Sol line as if (while using the products) your on an instant vacation to the tropics.  "Ooh Ibiza!  Get swept away to a magical place in the Mediterranean - an exotic island off the coast of Spain.  It's Euro-chic lifestyle at your fingertips."  The colors are beachy and, of course, Ashley Greene, the spokeswoman, is lazing around in a gorgeous maxi dress (that I just recently bought and looks awesome on!!!) looking flawless.  The campaign colors tie in gorgeous corals, and glowing turquoise with hints of bright orange and shimmery purples which are the best colors for the summer. 

The products I picked out were the Ibiza Sol Marbleized Lip Gloss in Chica Coral and the Ibiza Sol Nailed It Mini Lacquers.  (The polishes were a set of 2).  Even though I only grabbed a couple items, the line has many other products which I'll get to in a bit.

OOTD & FOTD: Lovely Blues

It's been raining in Vancouver for, oh, about the past week and a bit so this morning I made the decision to wear a dress. Not just any dress but one of my long maxi dresses (strapless) to make me feel like I was in Mexico or at least somewhere that isn't raining. And....It totally worked!!! Not only did the rain break for a bit but I paired it with my awesome new aviators and got so many compliments.

I love this dress because it was inexpensive ($25 Old Navy last year) and is extremely forgiving, if you know what I mean.

Man, this is a crap picture. Either way, you can sort of see the blue I used on my eyes.

This picture is much better. ( I, of course, blame poor lighting...ha) I, as usual, have my shimmer all-over glow going on as well as a light coral lip.

FOTD: Office Appropriate

I was really nervous about doing my first FOTD post. I've honestly been humming and hawing about a post like this for such a long time, and then, as I was getting ready for work today, I randomly snapped some pictures (and think they actually look pretty good, if I say so myself.)

Because of what I do, I need to look professional and put together at all times and I feel this look does exactly that. Not only do I look polished but this look takes me all of 13 minutes to accomplish. It doesn't get better than that! Have any of you used any of these products before? What are your thoughts? XO

Intuitive Cheek Color: Smashbox vs Mark

I purchased the Smashbox O-Glow Intuitive Cheek Color, on a whim recently, while stumbling around Sephora in my normal hazy, makeup-induced stupor. Now, according to Smashbox, this is the "first intuitive blush that reacts with your skin's chemistry to turn your cheeks the color you blush naturally". I hummed and hawed, in the shop, for about three seconds and gladly paid the $40 to make this little gem mine. I went home, turned on my computer, and was greeted with a nice product email from Mark, announcing it's new Shimmer Cheekblossom Cheek Color Tint, that also "reacts with your skin's chemistry to give cheeks a perfect-for-you pink flush". As I scrolled through the email, I also noticed that it was only being sold for $8.00. I know, only 8 bucks...So, I immediately ordered it. As you can see, both products come in tubes of similar size, however you get 5 mL more with the Smashbox brand. Both have similar applicators and tubes that are very easy to squeeze. Both products are a silicone-based gel which means they are easy to apply and spread nicely. Fresh out of the container, both brands look virtually the same but if you look closely, the one on the top (Smashbox) is slightly thicker in texture than the one on the bottom (Mark). Here's where we start to see the major difference. Both products have been rubbed into my skin the exact same way (light circular motions) and have only been on for 30 seconds. You can definitely see a huge color contrast between the two. (L to R: Mark, Smashbox) The Smashbox product is turning a beautiful shade of pink while the Mark product has barely tinted my oh-so pale arm. After comparing both products, it's definitely clear who the winner is this time around. Smashbox, though much more costly, has proven it deserves the "first intuitive blush" title as well my respect. Though I will always be a thrifty shopper, I guess there are some things that really are worth the extra money. Now how do I explain this to Allan? HA XO

My Recent Avon/Mark Haul

I came to a realization today. This epiphany occurred as I was sifting through my recent Avon/Mark purchase, deciding which products to use on my face, and envisioned writing an Avon haul post. Yes, my very first one!!! I enjoy reading all your haul posts so much and thought I'd join the bandwagon and write one myself.....ha. As most of you know already, I'm a huge Mark fan. Mark (Avon's trendy sister) has fantastic colors, great prices, and is always coming up with something new and different. (As you'll definitely see from my recent order.) This time around I got Mark Get a Tint (tinted moisturizer), Mark Glossblossom (color changing lipgloss), Mark Cheekblossom (color changing blush), Mark It Kit (eye/lip/cheek palette), Avon Tri-Shadow in OnyxLuster, Avon Tri-Lip Gloss in Onyx Luster and Avon's Super Magnify Mascara. Avon Tri-Shadow and Tri-Lip Gloss - I fell in love with both Onyx Luster products as soon as I saw them. Though the colors look quite a bit darker in the lip gloss, the colors in both products are actually the exact same tones. Both have a deep purple, a dark silvery grey and a pale pink. These two products were the reason I placed the order in the first place. Mark Glossblossom and Mark Cheekblossom are the only color changing beauty products that cost under $10 CAN. Seriously, can you believe that? Can't wait to write a review on these two... Mark Get a Tint - Summer is the perfect time for wearing tinted moisturizer so I thought I'd beat the rush and purchase mine early. This one is great because it matches my skin (YAY) and has an SPF of 15. Perfect for those days when you're running around, not wanting to wear anything heavy and still needing some sun protection. (By the way, the moisturizer blends in smooth and feels nice and light!) Mark It Kit - Here I am, saving the best for last. As per Mark's website, this palette is described as containing "Spring's hottest, straight-off-the-runway shades". It has three eye shadows and a bronzer on the first side (L to R: White Hot, Violet Femme, Vampette and Bronzini). While the flip-side of the palette (yes, I said flip-side and you'll see what I mean in a second) has three color creams (L to R: Mauving On, Goldirocks, Cocoa Rush) and three lip glosses (L to R: Retro, Lotus Pop, Pretty Delish). The color creams are great because you can wear them on your lips, eyes, or even as a nice cheek color. Here's the kicker. Once opened, you access both sides of the palette by flipping the inner compact over with your finger. In all my shopping, I've never seen a palette this unique and I absolutely love it! Reviews will, of course, be following but just wanted to give you a quick little taste. What do you think? Have you used any of these items before? XO
