Something Old, Something New and Something....well, Chipped

Ack, I have so many things to tell you all!!!

First, an exciting bit of information that falls into the "something old" category.  I got glasses!!!  I had laser eye surgery about 9 years ago and it literally changed my life.  I went from seeing nothing without my glasses/contacts on to waking up and seeing the alarm clock in the middle of the night. However, I've been getting really bad headaches and since I work on a computer all day for my job, I thought it time to get my eyes checked.  And now, I have the cutest pair of glasses for reading and operating heavy machinery (aka the computer...ha).  What do you think?

Secondly, the "something new" piece of the puzzle.  I finally bought myself a name necklace.  I don't know about you but after I saw Carrie Bradshaw (aka Sarah Jessica Parker) take Manhattan by storm while wearing hers, I knew I needed one for myself. And I love it!  It even has a little ruby birthstone in it.  It's so cute.

The second part of the "something new" category is that Allan and I booked our honeymoon to Bali last night!!!  Never have I ever been this excited about anything before in my life.  It's been such a long time since we've traveled anywhere fabulous and it's definitely time to for us to see the world.  Plus, Bali is extremely inexpensive.  We're going there for 18 days and the hotels are not going to be more than $1000 total.  It's amazing.  Here are some of the places we're staying at...
A resort in Ubud, the cultural centre of Bali

Same resort as above but showing one of the pools

A fantastic resort in Seminyak, the swanky beach town

And, lastly, the "something chipped" category.  So, as it turns out, the nail polish from yesterday's  blog post chipped after only half a day.  Now I know exactly what happened and it's because I didn't use a top coat.  So I am asking for some advice from all the nail ladies, what is the best top coat and why?  I have no idea what brand or type to buy so any help is greatly appreciated.

Has anything interesting happened to you lately?

XO Christina

  1. Oh I love your new glasses!! They are so cute! I hope they prevent those headaches. I love the name necklace too!! Great idea with putting the stone in!
Bali looks wonderful! I'm so jealous!! Sorry not a nail gal, but I'll be interested in the advice you receive, chipping always happens to me when I wear nail polish, it's the main reason why I can't be bothered with it. xo

  2. Those glasses are so cute! And OMG I would LOVE to go to Bali! I know a lot of couples that have gone there for their honeymoon and it looks gorgeous! And it's so funny about the necklace because I'm trying to lose weight and I promised myself that when I get to my half-way goal, I'd get myself a gold name necklace in Arabic :)

  5. Great glasses - I'm a bespectacled girl myself :) Try Sally Hansen Megashine top coat or OPI RapiDry to get more mileage out of your mani.

  6. Hi! We just found your blog and we are your newest follower! Congrats on booking your honeymoon in Bali. Looks AMAZING!! And had no idea that it was inexpensive. WOW!!
We use Seche Vite as our top coat and think it's the best we've tried so far. It's nice and thick (kind of) and dries pretty fast but for some reason it just helps with everyday wear.
We'd love for you to visit our blog and follow back if you like. :-)

  7. 1. Glasses: ADORABLE! I want a new pair badly. I've had the same ones since I was a freshman in high school which was... in 2000. Eep!

    2. Necklace: LOVE IT! SJP/Carrie Bradshaw make damn near everything look fabulous. It's just not fair. But yours is precious!

    3. Bali: JEALOUS! You will have a FABULOUS time, I'm sure of it. And we'd better see like 9000 pictures when you get back. Seriously. 18 days, 9000 pictures.. That only comes out to be 500 pictures per day (I did the math). TOTALLY doable.

    4. Top coat: SECHE VITE! The stuff has literally changed my life. LITERALLY.

    ♥ you!

  8. A whole post of fabulousness (minus the nails). My best friend went to Bali on honeymoon and loved it!! Exciting times :)

I use the OPI start to finish top coat and it's good!

  9. As a fellow jewelry girl I love your necklace! Sweet and simple! Love the glasses too, plastic frames are so much more more comfortable. I switched from metal frames years ago :o)

As far as the top coat - as Mandy said Seche Vite is amazing. It dries to the touch instantly and hardens within minutes. There is only ONE downside to Seche Vite and that's what us nail geeks call 'shrinkage'. Basically, towards the edges of your nails the polish will 'shrink' to expose your nail. It DOES NOT do this with all polishes and some are worse than others. If you have a little more time to let your top coat dry (not in a hurry or just about to go to bed) then I suggest Essie's 'Good to go' topcoat. :o)

    P.S. a base coat helps too ;o)

    Hope this helps!!

  10. Go with SECHE VITE!! I swear it is the ONLY thing that keeps polish on my nails ( I am a metalsmith by trade so nail polish doesn't last long to begin with) It's the fastest drying top coat I've ever used, and is way better than the OPI in my opinion (i have both)
    Seriously - worth every penny!
