DIY Beauty Fridays: Homemade Bath Remedies

There is nothing I enjoy more than a warm bathtub, filled with delicious bubbles and a great chicklit book to pass the time.  I could honestly spend hours soaking the time away IF my skin didn't wrinkle like a prune.  Despite that though, there is something so soothing and relaxing about a bath.

I am usually the girl that has an endless supply of bath salts, bombs, bubbles and oils but ALWAYS seem to run out.  Another thing since I'm on a wedding budget, and these products are super expensive, I've had to look at other alternatives.  Here's some ways to soak your life away for next to nothing...

Milk Bath

If adding milk to a bath was good enough for Cleopatra I'm positive it's good enough for us.  Add a handful of powdered milk to your tub and your skin will not only glisten when you come out BUT it will feel smooth and silky.  (If you have some scented oils around the house I suggest adding a few drops.  It's nice to take away from the powdered milk smell.)

Honey Bath

This is one of my favorites for sure.  I use honey in most of my recipes and added it to the tub on a whim.  Let me tell you, my skin felt so soft once I was out that Iknew I had to tell you all.  Add a couple tablespoons to your tub and you'll be amazed by how less sleepy you'll be.

Oatmeal Bath

Thanks to my mom who used this remedy on both my sister and I when we had the chicken pox, I knew it was a keeper.  Of course, I use this bath if my skin is really itchy or red.  Add 1 and a 1/2 cups of oatmeal to a nylon sock (yes, put it inside the sock) and add the entire pouch to your tub.  Let the oatmeal soak for a bit (you'll notice the tub water looks milky) and then hop in.  This is one of the best, and easiest, ways to reduce itchiness.

Buttermilk Bath

Gross, I know but the combination of water and buttermilk works to relieve aching muscles.  Add a cup or two of buttermilk to your tub and emerge a relaxed person.  (Again, since the smell bothers me a bit, add a couple drops of a eucalyptus oil to ease tension and cover the smell.)

Hope you all have a great weekend and make time for a bath, DIY style!
