The Skinny on Deodorant - Q & A with Carmen

On a recent trip to Fred Meyers (yes, another one....) my friend Carmen and I were dragged, by Allan, over to the Organic Skin and Body Care section.

We were perusing through brands like Kiss My Face (amazing product line), Burt's Bees and Avalon Organics when we stumbled on 8 different brands of deodorant. Now usually, I'm not as fussy about deodorant as I am about...say, skin care or moisturizers, but lately, I've been researching them because many brands add harmful ingrediants. (By the way, the main difference between the two is deodorant allows perspiration but prevents odour while antiperspirant uses chemicals to prevent perspiration.) One of the most harmful additives in these products is aluminum oxide which is the compound that actually works to prevent sweating and odours. (It's been said that this compound has been associated with multiple brain disorders and even breast cancer.)

So, we did like any woman fearing for her breasts would do, we purchased some natural deodorant. I bought JASON Natural Deodorant in Lavender (yummy scent) while Carmen purchased Crystal Body Deodorant Stick. Once home, I put the stick on immediately. To be honest, I was a bit nervous at first. Yes, the scent was nice but once on, it didn't seem to dry instantly, in fact, it took about 10 minutes for my armpit to absorb the moisture. But, once absorbed, I wasn't wet at all!!! Since then, I have been using this everyday and absolutely love it. I am still completely DRY at the end of the day and am no longer having to reapply mid-afternoon....Kuddos to JASON!!!

Carmen is one of the busiest gals I know. With two kids she's raising by herself and a career that flies her her around North America, having her sit down and write a review is difficult. So, without further adieu, the Q & A....

Me: What was your first impression/initial thought of the Crystal?
Carmen: A bit skeptical to be honest. I’m not a huge sweater but when I do, I definitely produce an odour without antiperspirant or deodorant on…

Me: The Crystal is completely different than other deodorants. What are the application techniques?
Carmen: The Crystal is very hard and dry so you run it under a trickle of water to wet the top, and then rub the area to spread on the ‘crystal’. Sometimes two dips in the water are needed.

Me: And??? Does it work?
Carmen: Wow…like amazing!!!! The first few days I was amazed at a few things…mostly that it was not sticky, no residue and no odour…seriously NO ODOUR at the end of a day. But, the true test came on Tuesday of last week. Imagine showing up to the Vancouver Airport at 2:15, when your plane leaves at 2:45. (International flight of course.) Imagine the front desk calling down to the plane and being told that I had to be there at 2:35 or they were closing the doors! Imagine how fast I ran, begging for a better line in customs and security, charming my way through the ENTIRE LUGGAGE INSPECTION I encountered. Imagine making it with 3 seconds to spare and being escorted on the plane!!! Imagine how nasty I must have been, sitting next to that poor person in 16A… Well, this did happen to me and after we were 39 thousand feet up, I ventured into the bathroom with my arms firmly stuck to my side like glue imagining all sorts of vicious smells exuding!! NOTHING….not a scent….not a single scent!!! Honestly, that was my true test and it passed with flying colours!!!

Me: Does the product give off any scent or smell?
Carmen: Zero. I’ve tried hard to find a hint…and nothing…nada…ziltcho!

Me: Would you buy it again?
Carmen: I may never need too. I’ve heard this thing will last forever! But yes, I will. The only thing I’m ‘waiting’ for is for my body to get used to it or something and stop working. You know how one's body sometimes gets used to the deodorant they use? Maybe that will happen here too. Maybe we should do a follow up in three months!! ( I totally agree Carm!!)

Me: Last words?
Carmen: Super super impressed. Best $5 I’ve ever spent and I feel like I’m doing well for my body by not putting aluminum on it everyday.
Thanks so much, Carmen, for trying out this awesome product and answering my questions! (I couldn't have done it without you...) Try these out ladies, seriously. Get out of the habit of wearing a product with harmful additives. These two brands aren't expensive and your body deserves to be happy and healthy!

The Mod Look of Clive's Red Boots

Isn't this miniature pig just about the most adorable thing you've ever seen????? I stumbled on this picture quite some time ago and literally BEGGED Allan to let us have a pig as a pet. (His response was "well, if you really want one, I guess we can look into it....") Anyway, I had to share this because Clive, the mini-pig, is definitely fashion forward in his thigh-high red rain boots!!

Round A Kiss is Not A Winner

Because I wear lipstick everyday, lip exfoliation is a must. One of the worst things imaginable is having dry, cracked, chapped lips which are literally flaking off through your lip gloss/stick......ummmm, ew!

While perusing my neighborhood Sephora I stumbled on the Round A Kiss product in a sale bin ($8 to be exact) and thought I'd try it. The circular palette contains four different lip treatments in one useful container: The green exfoliator, the white moisturizer and two lip plumping colors.

The exfoliator, which is why I bought the palette to begin with, was absolutely useless. I attempted to apply it with the skimpy lip brush they included but to no avail. Instead, I applied with my finger and even then, the exfoliator didn't scruff my lips. The moisturizer is surprisingly good though; the color vanishes leaving your lips extremely hydrated and nourished. Lastly, the lip colors faded much too quickly and unfortunately, did not color nor plump my lips as I had first anticipated. All in all, I am NOT a fan of this and though it was only $8 I still feel I wasted my money; I don't recommend this product to anyone, whatsoever. That being said, here are a couple of home-made exfoliant recipes that I am completely in love with.

1. Mix white sugar with some olive oil. Massage on lips and, once rubbed in, wash off with a warm cloth. Your lips will be extremely soft!! Ensure you put some Vaseline on afterwards to nourish your new non-flaky lips!

2. Take an extra soft toothbrush, rub some Vaseline on the bristles and go to town (gently) on your lips. Again, wash off with a cloth and apply the Vaseline afterwards.

Do you have a great lip exfoliant recipe??? I'd love to hear about it!

Cheek Stain = No More Powdered Blush

Yesterday was a major hangover day for me. Typically on days like these, I stay at home in pj's, eat anything I want and watch movies. But, unfortunately for my pocketbook, I went shopping with a friend instead.

The plan was for me to look at one lipstick and, if it was nice, I was going to purchase it. (This is what I told Allan.) Instead, I bought a few lipsticks and a Tarte Cheek Stain in Tipsy which is, quite possibly, one of the best products I have ever bought.

I am quite the blush fiend. In fact, I not only have a blush in almost every color imaginable BUT I am so confident in my blush brush abilities that I can put it on perfectly with my eyes closed. (Yes, I tried this last week...ha.) The only problem with powdered or compact blush is the actual application. If you're not careful, or using the proper tools, the blush will not go where you want it to and end up streaky or, dare I say it, clown-like. This is why the Cheek Stain is so amazing.

It comes in a tube-like container and is slightly tacky, like a lip gloss. You can use your fingertips or a sponge for application should you choose OR just apply straight from the tube to your cheeks like I did. The application technique is completely foolproof. Once applied, you smudge, smear or rub to your heart's delight and voila, you're done. I have a feeling that these cheek stains will soon be replacing all my powdered blushes.....

They aren't cheap ($39 at Sephora) but they are definitely worth the investment. I highly highly highly recommend looking into this brand ladies. OH, did I also mention that Tarte Cosmetics is a natural makeup line whose products are eco-friendly and cruelty free??? It honestly can't get much better than this.....Have a look at their website!

MAN POST: Hair and What Women Wish You'd Have

As you can see, today is a blog post for my Man Followers.

I've neglected them slightly with all my writings of lipstick, primers and bronzers, so after being yelled at by a good guy friend, Amar, I thought it best to write this then face his wrath again.

Women aren't the only ones that are obsessed with their hair. Yes, men may be concerned about different things then we are (like hair loss) but, all in all, men want to look good and fashionable, just like women. Their issue is how much time it takes to look good. There is absolutely no guy I know that loves spending time in front of a mirror perfecting each and every strand. (Actually, I don't think any women does that either.) Having said this gentlemen, here's how to create a good hair care routine without spending years in front of the mirror.

1. Shampoo and Conditioner. Yes, I said shampoo AND conditioner. Of course, you can use a 2 in 1 but they either contain more shampoo then conditioner or vice versa. For the au-naturel man, try and pick a brand that isn't chalked full of sulfates (such as Organix, Avalon Organics and if, you're prone to dandruff, JASON Tea Trea Oil Shampoo.) Yes, the prices may be a bit higher but you are doing WONDERS for your hair in the long run. Remember, once the conditioner is on your head, let it sit for about three minutes.

2. Grooming and Style Tools. Depending on hair length and texture, you may have to use a comb, (wide-tooth if you have curly hair) brush and/or a blowdrier. I will say that most men are put off the blowdrier idea. If you are wanting to add volume or straighten, a blowdrier will be your best friend. If using one, make sure you put a product in your hair first depending on what you want to achieve. Mousse = volume/shine, Gel = sculpting, Hair Oil = Anti-frizz.

3. Style. Once your hair is dry, you can then begin styling. If you style your hair prior to it being dry, you'll notice (and girls will too) that it becomes crunchy and hard. If you style it dry, you'll use less product and your hair will look and feel better. Find a style that works for you and can be created in under five minutes. (Trust me, you don't want to spend more than this....) Some great products to use are Redken for Men Polish Up Pomade, AG Waxx Gloss Pomade or AG Infrastructure. (The first two are more glossy and the last one is sticky.) Rub a small amount of product between your hands and go to town.

Remember, girls like coiffed hair on guys. We like hair that looks rugged but is still stylish. Oh, and crunchy hair ISN'T your friend....Ha. And, last but not least, don't cheap out on products. Cheap hair stuff either dries out your hair or makes it oily. (Both of which aren't good.) If you aren't sure what's good, your hair stylist can definitely help!

Hair Loss Tip: If you are starting to lose your hair, don't fret. It happens to a lot of people, women included. My girlfriend Renate, a very prominent stylist and guest blogger, recommends the Nioxin Hair Treatment Kit. It comes very highly reviewed and can be purchased discreetly online.

Let me know your thoughts guys. I may have missed something!

Hmmmm....Dr. Feelgood by Benefit????

Question marks in a title are never a good sign.

Either I'm still not sure what I think about the product, the product is completely awful OR the idea that Benefit called something "Dr. Feelgood" and people still use it, has baffled me. For future reference, it's the former.

I bought this complexion balm because I'd heard AMAZING things. "Oh, Christina", people said, "you have to try it. I use it all the time and it's fantastic and blah, blah, blah..." Not only were my friends telling me good things but I needed to find a non-sticky, non-greasy primer. I think this is where I went wrong.

This is NOT a primer. You can, of course, wear it alone as it does conceal fine lines but it's meant to be used as a touch-up on top of make-up. It will, without a doubt, take away shine and does leave skin extremely smooth and silky, but my dislike for the applicator is greater than my appreciation of the product. (This is a first for me. I'm typically able to get over something as miniscule as this but for some reason, I can't.)

The applicator is so incredibly spongey that it removes your make-up with one quick swipe. If you're prone to oily patches like I am, this little issue will greatly hinder your put-together-ness.

Either way, I do enjoy the minty smell and texture of this complexion balm but wish it came with a different applicator. (I sound so nit-picky...Ha)
Let me know your thoughts. Have you tried this before? Did you like it?

Say Ciao to Chipping

I polished my nails this pretty taupe-y nude color last night about 40 minutes prior to going to bed, like usual.

I woke up this morning and PURPOSELY didn't wash my hair because of my awesome nail color. I did everything like I usually do, which consists of eating breakfast, getting ready, getting dressed, and then, as soon as I got into the car, I noticed that one of my nails had a huge chip in it. As I was driving to work, I realized that I missed a very important step in my home-manicure line-up....buffing. Because of my oddly chipped nails (and as a reminder to myself), here's how to prevent your nail polish from flaking away.....

1. Clean your nails and hands. Wash hands and dry thoroughly BEFORE removing old nail polish. Even if you are painting non-colored nails, wipe them with polish remover anyway. It removes all the yucky grime that builds during the day and gives you a clean canvas to paint.

2. Buff your nails. Buffing smoothes the nail and makes it easier for polish to adhere to. (Missing this step will give you more chips as well know now!)

3. Base Coat. Some people aren't as fussy about this step BUT the last thing you want to have is stained nails. (Trust me, dark colors will stain.) Plus, a base coat makes it easier to remove the polish at a later date.

4. Pick a high quality nail polish. I am really bad for this. Personally, I like cheap nail polish because constantly change my mind and nail color. I will say that higher-end polish contains superior ingredients and are less likely to chip.

5. Thin coats. Paint the nails with thinner coats and ensure that each coat dries fully before adding another one. Only add a max of three coats per nail. (I only do two.) If you add any more color, it makes it too difficult to dry.

6. Add a top coat. This is the bonding coat so pick a good stengthening polish. Make sure the nails are completely dry before doing any activities that involve your hands.

Following these salon tips will definitely help prevent flaking and chipping. Of course, it doesn't help me now as I'm already at work and forgot to bring my nail poilish. So much for my new nail polish...Oh by the way, this whole chipped nail polish is supposedly a trend. Either I'm old, or completely ignorant, but I don't get it....at all.

Are there any polish tips that you absolutely swear by? Let me know.....

Beautiful Nudes

I am completely taken by nudes right now. No, I'm not talking about art since I, unfortunately, know nothing about it, but am, of course, talking about nude lips, eyes, and shoes.

I remember so long ago wearing nude lipstick before I knew how to use blush or concealer. I think I wore nude then because it was the only color my mom would let me wear to school and, back then, browns and beiges were very popular. Nude lip color, though, has come back with a bang because of the smoky eye. If you're going heavy on eye make-up it's always best to match it with a nude lip as all the focus is meant to be on the eyes.

Yesterday I was on a rampage trying to find the perfect pair of nude heels to wear to a birthday dinner. Get this, I was in the mall for 35 minutes and checked out all the shoe stores and managed to have pairs on hold at each shop. Lucky me that the last place I went to had the pair I'd been looking for. I snatched them up right away. (Photo on Left...)

Getting back to lip color though, here's a list of my favorite nude lipsticks and glosses right now.

1. NARS Belle Du Jour. This color is absolutely perfect with minimal or heavy make-up. Kudos to Kim Kardashian for making this such a popular color.
2. Too Faced Glamour Gloss in Pillow Talk. This brand is neat since their glosses are also enhanced with a lip plumping serum. Once on, this nude gloss tingles and creates a perfect pout.
3. Wet 'n' Wild Silk Finish 545A in Blushing Balli. I adore this color. It's a subtle pink shimmery gloss that doesn't really change the color of my lips but tends to go with everything. Oh, and it only cost me $.67
4. NARS Cruising. Again, another amazing color by NARS. Perfectly nude and actually lasts a long time on your lips. (Model above is wearing this color.)
5. MAC Creme d'Nude. Perfect matte nude color to pair with smoky eyes.

Tell me your go to nude lip colors, ladies! I'm always wanting to expand on this list....

Even More Cheap Beauty Tricks and Tips

Back by popular demand.....(Ha, just kidding.)

I was perusing through some fashion magazines the other day and discovered some great tips that I thought I should share. A lot of what the article was based on I had already posted (YAY...smart me) but there were a couple great smidgets that even I never knew. So, thanks so much InStyle Magazine.

Remember, you don't have to spend a heap of money to look good. Some of these tips will give you some cheaper solutions to expensive products and others will show you how to use things in your fridge. (Sticking on the cheaper note though, I will be doing a series of posts about cheap cosmetic lines that still look good so stay tuned.....)

1. Sponge on SPF - This is a great tip since SPF can feel rather gooey on the face. If applied with a sponge, it will be absorbed by the skin quicker and easier.
2. Hydrocortisone as Zit Cream - First, hot compress the spot several times then a apply a glob of 1% hydrocortisone cream (Aveeno makes a good one for about $6) and let sit for two hours. The swelling will have gone drastically.
3. Bathing while Sunburned - Showering and bathing hurt when sunburned but add about 2 litres of milk to warm water and about 15 drops of lavender oil. This mixture will calm the skin. Another good one is watermelon. Puree the fruit and slather on the skin. This will actually take away the burning feeling.
4. Sensitive Skin Facial Mask - Apply one tablespoon of full fat sour cream to skin and let sit for about 20 minutes. (Do this twice a week). They say the lactic acid helps to smooth skin and improve texture.
5. Avocado Mask - If you have dry skin, massage mashed avocado on to your face and let sit for about 15 minutes.
6. Great Tip for Eczema - A diluted bleach bath (1/2 cup of bleach to a full tub of water) kills the bacteria that cause inflammation.
7. Frozen Apple Juice - Freeze apple juice into an ice cube tray and, once frozen, rub over face. The acid in the juice acts as an
anti-aging product. It feels like a mini-facelift and a facial.
8. Foot Odor - If you suffer from stinky feet, soak feet in a bowl of very very very dark black tea. The tea changes the pH balance of your skin and fight odor.
9. Apple Cider Vinegar for Dandruff - Spray Apple Cider Vinegar onto your scalp prior to showering and after about five minutes, rinse out and shampoo like normal. (Wet or dry hair.)
10. Lip Gloss as Blush - Swirl a cherry lip gloss on to the apple of your cheeks for a more natural glow.
11. Conceal Dark Circles - Tap a taupe eye shadow under your eyes to cover dark circles. Great tip if you're running low on concealer.

Try some of these tips out and let me know your thoughts!!

Be Gone Frizzy Hair

What a dreary day today...

Because of the dampness in Vancouver, I'm always on the hunt for a product that prevents the frizzies. You all know what I'm talking about....those little strands that stick straight up after standing in the rain for a second, or the curly bits that emerge out of nowhere...yes, I know all about it.

Even though my hair is short, I deal with the frizzies daily. My hair, as everyone knows, is extremely coarse, thick and texturized. This means that most hair products aren't able to tame it. I have tried sprays, leave-in conditioners, pommades, serums and most of them don't work.

While at the salon the other day, I noticed a tiny container called Agadir Argan Oil Hair Treatment. I purchased the little bottle because it was time for something new and my usual product, Biosilk, had been failing me. The new product, Agadir, is 100% certified organic as it uses pure argan oil which softens and strengthens dry, brittle and hard to manage hair.

This morning, after washing, I used about about a nickel size (for my hair anyway) and rubbed it all over. Let me say, first, the smell is absolutely amazing. Similar to the Morroccan Oil line, it smells like your on a beach in the tropics. Once in my hair, it wasn't greasy or oily and my hair follicles seemed to relax under the product. So far I'm pretty impressed.

I styled like normal and though I didn't see a difference, I sure felt one. My hair was smooth, sleek and straight for the first time since...well, ever. I was actually able to use less pommade and less hair spray so my hair feels normal....Yay.

NOTE: Because I have intense hair, I could use a nickel size. Should you have fine or thin hair, I would recommend using less.

Strange Happenings

I am really having an interesting day.
It's only 1:08 PM and, already, I'm wishing for sleep so it can be tomorrow.

My day began like any other EXCEPT that last night, I got my hair coiffed. So, typically, I adore getting my hair cut, colored and styled because not only is it great to have someone else deal with your hair, but it's a chance to read smutty magazines. Seriously, I am a sucker for hollywood gossip. I know everything about everyone from whom they're dating, what clothing lines they were and what they looked like last year. (Allan knows almost as much as I do because living with me involves listening to my crazy celebrity-inspired rants.) The problem with my visit last night was no new celebrity trash; I'd already read everything. Strike 1, I'd say.

Got out of bed this morning to an intense bug problem. (Yes, I said bugs.) Now, everyone knows that basement suites = bugs and, though I hate them, I understand that. Seriously, though, I can't handle killing 15+ potato bugs (weird, black, flat bugs) and 1 abnormally large spider before 6:15 am. It's just not right. The spider incident occurred as soon as I dragged my sorry behind to the kitchen to make coffee. I was filling the pot in the sink and noticed this weird black thing dart across the sink. I look down, since I'm still uber groggy at this point, and leaned in to the sink to catch a closer look. When I realized that it was not only a spider but one with real fangs, I freaked out. I screamed a bit, jumped up and down and called for Allan to come kill it. (Oh right, Allan is away for the next two weeks so I had to save myself.) I tried to drown it at first, but to no avail, so I grabbed a tissue and squashed the killer spider. Strike 2.

Once the bugs were met with their watery deaths, I went to the bathroom to have a bath. I flicked on the light, looked in the mirror and almost screamed again. I completely forgot that I got my hair colored and, let me tell you, holy crap is it dark. I did say auburn though but I am feeling a little overwhelmed. That plus I can't wear all black outfits anymore. Strike 3.

This next little tidbit isn't so much a rant but more of a strange beauty treatment I read about. It's called a Butt Facial. Yes, you heard me right. People pay about $70 to have a facial completed on their booty as well as a massage. Not only do you get cleansed, exfoliated and massaged but they include waxing should you choose. I have absolutely never heard of this treatment before and I have an odd feeling that someone is going to ask me to write a review about it........hmmmmmmm

Anyway, it's 1:30 pm now and since unloading, I feel mountains better......
PS... Is anyone else having a weird day???

Superstore: I Heart You and Your Duo Concealer

Allan hates Superstore. Whenever I suggest going, he'll find an excuse for us to go somewhere smaller. I get that he dislikes the crowds, the lines, the poor food selection, and the yellow coloring......

But what he doesn't get is that Superstore has the JOE Fresh Line.
I adore Superstore for this line alone. Seriously, I have bought some pretty amazing clothes from there plus all my gloves for winter, cute flats, skinny belts and, my newest JOE obsession, beauty products.

I went to a Superstore last night that I'd never been to before. It was extremely large and the staff was confused, but, all in all, they had a great selection of cosmetics, which is where I beelined immediately. I was perusing through their sale bins when I noticed a HUGE white stand that said "JOE Fresh Beauty".

I was dumbfounded. Yes, I'd noticed the stand on one of my "we-need-to-get-groceries-let's-make-it-snappy" outings with Allan but I had never actually NOTICED it. I stopped in front of it, set my basket down, took my sunglasses off and stared at the pretty cosmetics for about 3 minutes.

I would like to say right now that they have quite a good selection of colors. For us pasteys, the cream foundation and bronzer colors might be a bit too dark, but the pressed powder and concealers were quite good. In fact, I purchased the JOE Fresh Beauty Duo Concealer to test it out. Oh, and it was only $8. (I'll say this right now, as much as I love Youngblood Cosmetics, I despise paying $22 for a concealer. I am definitely trying to source a cheaper option.)

After my $8 purchase, I rushed right home to wash my makeup off and try the new product. Just so everyone knows, it's a duo concealer. One end is a liquid with a sponge applicator and the other is a cream solid that can twist up. (I prefer cream concealers so that's the side I used.) I used the cream end, applying it with a concealer brush, and the color was actually almost a perfect match. I also found that I didn't have to use as much as I did with the Youngblood and my skin wasn't feeling as oily. All in all, for an $8 concealer from Superstore I was impressed immensly. Time will tell whether I break out or not, but for the most part, I highly recommend trying the line ladies!

NOTE: I am in no way comparing JOE Fresh Beauty with Youngblood because YB is a mineral makeup line, where as JOE Fresh isn't. I will say that the feel of the JOE Fresh product on my face is less oily, less shiny and well worth the $8.

The Forgotten Place

It's something that only females have....oh, and it makes us the better sex...Ha

I know I'm going WAY overboard with the title because, let's be honest, it's probably the most thought about place on our bodies BUT it's the area that no one seems to talk about....

I'm breaking this weird uncomfortable silence by saying two words:
SWEET SPOT

Yes, this is a product line and no, I'm not just avoiding the "V" word. Seriously, this brand has, quite literally, prevented some awkward encounters for me.

This company, which is fairly new, provides an intimate grooming collection solely designed for your nether regions. Their products include gentle washes, balancing mists and, my personal favorites, on-the-go wipes. Their collection not only provide the best ingredients designed to keep our pH balance at par, but they actually created something that really does work. Imagine, having a little towelette in your bag, whenever you need, that you can pull out, use and feel fresh all day long. (Honestly, I keep a stack in my purse at all times.) Plus, they smell so amazing you'll wonder how you ever relied on plain old soap to do the job...!

Scents are as follows:

Citrus Gelbanum
Geranium Lavender (my personal pick)
Basil Grapefruit
Unscented

Oh, and the best part is, they are very INEXPENSIVE.
A pack of the on-the-go towelettes is
only $5 for 7 and the gentle wash is only $12. Check out their website www.sweetspotlabs.com and place an order. I am seriously singing their praises all the time....

Strangely Amusing

I am still extremely confused by how I stumbled on this picture but seriously, look at his face!!! Never, in my life, have I seen a cat look that odd when wet OR have such a dumbfounded expression. He's like, "Oooooooooo, you stupid human, I hate you hate you HATE YOU!" I used to bathe my cat, Chloe, all the time and she never looked like this.....nor were her limbs so gangly.....Anyway, had to share it!!

A Bunch of Woo-Hoos

I have to give a couple of woo-hoos to two different companies: Fred Meyer and Warehouse One. I am completely and utterly in love with both for so many joyous reasons, which I, of course, will be sharing. Please, though, bare with me as I share my past two days with you all, in detail.

Thursday, after work, Allan picked me up at the skytrain, like normal, and we proceeded to the Bell store. (Long story short, I'd been trying to change my stupid cell phone plan since I pay WAY too much money per month.) Anyway, Daniel at the shop was amazing and after Allan talked them into giving me a much cheaper plan, we were on our way to a new, cute restaurant called Mucho Burrito. It's like a fast food burrito shop BUT it's all fresh ingredients and made to order. (We'll be going back for sure.....)

After eats, I noticed a new Warehouse One in the complex and we made our way there to find me some new jeans. Not only did I find a pair of jeans BUT two new pairs of dress pants and leggings
too. Oh and, the best part is, they have elastic waists.....(I know what you're thinking but they are FAB.....) The new line is stretchy and easy to wear since there aren't any buttons digging into odd places. My woo-hoo goes out to the new store, new line and the amazing manager who helped me shop!

Friday came and it was Allan's birthday. After work, we went go-karting and to dinner at a quaint Greek restaurant in White Rock that came equipped with it's own belly dancer.....(They always seem to shimmy directly in front of your table as soon as you start to eat.) Anyway, after that, Allan and I took a trip across the border; him to program a phone and me to shop at Target.

As it turns out, Target was closed so instead I slipped into Fred Meyer and I am so glad I did. I spent all of 15 minutes in there, since they were also about to close, and bought 9 new beauty products totaling $20......I KNOW, completely unheard of right? Yes, the product line was Wet N
Wild, which we all know isn't fantastic quality, but for some blushes, eyeshadows, lipsticks and bronzers, you can't beat that. So this is my woo-hoo to Fred Meyer.....you're awesome.

UPDATE: I would like to make it known that the reason I purchased the WNW line was because of a specific eyeshadow called Kitten. This particular shadow(located on right) is almost the exact same shade of my new NARS Strada Shadow. The reason for the comparison is PRICE...the NARS shadow is $20 while the WNW Kitten Shadow cost me $1.99.

There's No Brand Like NARS....

I'm in love.

I'm in love with a brand new (to me) product line so much that I'm contemplating marriage to an innanimate object.....Sorry Allan.

I have no idea why it's takin' me eons to even glance at this line but I'm glad I moved away from my comfort zone. A little while ago I purchased four products and loved the flat black packaging so much that I left them, unopened, on my vanity table. I took them out of the little boxes sometimes, stared at the pretty colors, and, once done, put them back into the boxes for safe keeping.

About a week ago, the time came for me to try out the purple eye shadow (NARS Single Eye Shadow in Strada) as I was wearing a new outfit and wanted my eyes to pop. I opened the box and tried the eye shadow on. Not only is the color absolutely bright and amazing, but it actually stays on the eye. Sometimes, with eye shadow, if you don't wear a lid primer, the shadow sticks to your eye creases and starts to appear worn but this shadow doesn't so that. It looks like you just applied it evern if you've had it on for hours.

After applying the shadow, I thought to myself, "why not open the blush too???" So, I did. Actually, I have been wanting to try this blush since I saw it in a fashion magazine a few months ago. Anyway, opened it up and the blush is a nice rosy peachy pink color with huge pieces of glitter in it. (NARS Blush Super Orgasm.) The glitter adds that subtle shimmering goodness that every blush and bronzer should have. Either way, the color is perfect on your cheeks alone if worn with dark eyes or even on top of bronzer for that sun-kissed hue.

I know I said four products but I'll get to the other two later. (They obviously weren't worn with this outfit....) Check this product line out ladies...you won't be angry you did.

UPDATE: Still plugging along with the eyelash serum. I am applying it every night, as recommended, but still not seeing anything. Of course, I am anxiously waiting for a change which could be why nothing's happening. Either way, here's my funny looking before picture....

Cleopatra Cat

I was chatting with my friend, Bronwen, while blogging and stumbled on this fantastic picture. This cat absolutely made my night!!! Look at her face (yes, I am calling her a "her".) She looks completely unimpressed, like cats usually do, but it's like she has no idea there's a lime on her head.....Priceless!!!

Nailed!

Nailpolish...so, though I can NOT live without it, I am the worst at applying it.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to apply it without it getting all over my skin, and even my fingers. (Of course, what I do is apply as much as I want then just take a Q-tip dipped in polish remover and clean my fingers...) Either way, nail colors are definitely a great way to make a bold statement and jazz up any outfit.

As you all know, red is definitely my staple color BUT I've broadened my horizons to include some other smashing colors too. Here's some of my faves right now:

1. Revlon Coral Me Wild (Neon Coral)
2. Essie Jag-U-Are (Red with Gold Flecks)
3. Revlon Hot For Chocolate (Chocolate Brown)
4. Rimmel London Bare Naked (Nude)
5. Revlon Steel Her Heart (Silver Grey)
6. Sinful Colors Professional Cloud 9 (Bright Orange)
7. Rimmel London Green With Envy (Shimmery Turquoise)
8. Revlon Plum Night (Dark Purple)

Yes, you'll notice a lot of Revlon polishes on the list because they are inexpensive and, because I tend to change my color every three days, it's not cost effective for me to spend more than that. (Plus, it does start to flake after a couple days...obviously not the greatest quality but only costs about $4.99.)

One other thing to keep in mind....the colors for fall are chocolate brown, burgundy, plum, and grey. Try some of these new colors out because you'll love them....PLUS, they go with everything!

Re-growth: The Beginning

So, Saturday night began my month-long relationship with Rapid Lash, the "eyelash enhancing serum."

I purchased the product at Shoppers Drug Mart after weeks of meticulously googling re-growth options. I chose this one because it's available in Canada (hahahaha, seriously) and it was ONLY $50. (Yes, I know, it's a lot of money but if this really does work it's so worth it.)

According to Shoppers, I have 30 days to try this product and if for any reason I have an allergic reaction or, god forbid, my eyelashes fall out, they will gladly give me my money back. (If either of these things actually happen, I'm suing....I swear....)

Use: The product can only be applied once a day, at night, and you can not have any make-up on whatsoever. Once your face is clean, you apply a thin layer to the upper lash line using the very fine brush and that's it. So far, I've used it twice and nothing has happened.....patience is not my strong suit.

I will be continuing this every night and let you know of anything crazy. Also, I am going to be posting my before picture as well as an after.....anyway, here goes nothing!

Despicable Kate but Lovely Rimmel

For the first time in about five plus years I purchased a drug store bronzer.

I can hear you all yelling SNOB but honestly, I just happened to find something I preferred more than the poor colored, yellow-tinged, pimple causing drug store products. ( I am now eating my words...)

It all happened when I was in Prince George. Now, as everyone can attest to, forgetting to pack something when going on vacation happens, so I wasn't surprised when my blush brush wasn't in my bag. (Yes, I know it was only one brush BUT when you're used to including it as part of your morning ritual, you're whole morning can be thrown off....ha.) Needless to say, my best friend, Renate, kindly offered me hers since we were staying with her. So, in the morning, I pulled out her brush and was about to swirl it around my loose Youngblood bronzer when I decided to be nosy.

So, I was digging through her make-up bag and found a GINORMOUS bronzer palette. Instead of using my bronzer, I, of course, used this one instead. And I am super glad I did. The brand was Rimmel London and inside this huge compact was shimmery goodness. I used it the entire time I stayed with her and even went to London Drugs while in PG and purchased my own. The one I bought was SunShimmer Bronzing Compact in Sun Queen and have been using it faithfully since my return home.

Oh and another thing, I also thought I'd try their lipstick. (It was on sale for $4.99 and I needed a new fall color.) I purchased the Moisture Renew Lipstick in Berry Queen (#400) and can absolutely not live without it. Since berry and wine colors are making a comeback this fall, I thought it time to put away the fire engine red colors and try something more classic. It's vibrant, but not too flashy, and virtually goes with every color. Remember, wine and burgandy colors are big on the runways for fall so I highly suggest checking out the Rimmel London's lipsticks and adding some to your wardrobe. YAY for cheap cosmetics!!!....

If only Kate Moss wasn't their model....well, here's to wishful thinking...

Eyelash Re-Growth or Extensions? Problem Solved

So, after some serious consideration, and a lot of research, I've decided to try the re-growth option. Thanks everyone for your advice and thoughts as it was greatly appreciated!!!

Here's why...

1. There are so many re-growth serums out there and hardly ANY good reviews. I'm definitely going to change that.
2. How cool would it be to be able to tell people that you re-grew your own eyelashes?
3. If it doesn't work, I can still go out and get the extensions and review that too.

So, I will be starting the re-growth thing this weekend. Stay tuned my friends....
