Product of the Week: Klorane Soothing Make-Up Remover Gel

My first encounter with a Klorane product was very dim.  I purchased their "award-winning" dry shampoo and despised the smell and feel of my hair after using it.  Needless to say, I typically walked past the Klorane section of the drugstore without so much as a glance.  But this weekend was different.

I ran out of eye make-up remover about three weeks ago and have been using baby shampoo instead.  As much as I like using this alternative, I find it's best if used in small doses and NOT as part of a daily routine.  (See, it dries out my skin ever so slightly and makes my under eyes slightly puffy.  In other words, not good!)  So, I went to London Drugs and after perusing the aisles, I stumbled on the new Klorane display advertising their eye make-up removers.  So, after some debate between liquid or gel, I snatched up the gel and made a dash to the cashier.

Once at home, I opened up the tube and was instantly met with a sweet, clean scent.  Usually most eye make-up removers have a very alcohol-based smell, one that irritates my eyes and even my face.  However, this one smelled very floral and quite soft.  Another HUGE plus for me was the packaging.  I love the tube!!!  It's so much easier to be able to squeeze out the perfect amount of product and have the lid close completely, making it extremely sanitary.

Klorane Soothing Make-up Remover Gel with Cornflower Water

Pros:
Beautiful light smell
Sanitary packaging
Easy to use
Gel removes all make-up in a few swipes
Doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes or skin
Cornflower water known to soothe skin
Cons:
Price - $17 CAD

All in all, I would definitely repurchase this product. I love how my skin and eye area feels after using this product and the smell is so nice that I want to use it all the time!!  It's the price, though, that's getting me.  But, let's be honest, a great eye make-up remover IS necessary....

Have any of you ladies tried this product before?  What are your thoughts?

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution: A Review

New products fascinate me, they really do.

About three weeks ago, I popped by Shoppers Drug Mart after getting my haircut. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself because my hair was cut a lot shorter than normal so I was desperately feeling the need to buy something special. After wandering up and down the aisles for a good 10 minutes, I saw a new display advertising Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution.

For those new to Bioderma I'll give you a quick rundown. The Bioderma laboratory (laboratoire dermatologique) is based in Lyon, France and is among the most frequently prescribed laboratories by French dermatologists. Bioderma, the line, is favored by many physicians and pharmacists because it's in touch with every type of skin issue available. They have lines specifically for sensitive skin (sensibio), iritated skin (cicabio) and dry skin (actoderm) just to name a few. Needless to say, Bioderma is very well-known for a reason.

Anyway, back to shopping....

So, I snatched up the Sensibio H2O and, after reading the label, realized that it's a cleanser/make-up remover all in one. And, because I love products like this so much (I really do) I bought it.

I used it that night on both my eyes and face and initial thought was good. I liked that the cleaner/make-up remover was clear in color and had virtually no odor. (Actually, it was like using water, but more efficient.) I soaked a cotton pad and went to town on my eye make-up. It took a little bit of effort but all of my make-up did come off AND, best part was, there was no irritation. I then soaked another cotton pad and used it on my face. I found that it took off my make-up fairly well but didn't quite cleanse my face. After about three more cotton pads (and I really don't wear much make-up), I finally got to see how it would cleanse my face. I liked the feel of my skin after using the product, it felt a lot more smooth, but still didn't think it got my skin as clean as I wanted.

Do I think this product was worth the $22 I paid? Unfortunately, it's a no for me. As much as I liked the "make-up remover" portion I think that the cleanser side fell flat. So, I guess this is one product I won't be running out and buying again anytime soon.

Have any of you tried anything else in this brand before?

Ciao

My Cheap Eye Make-up Remover Mishap

If you're like me, then you know that eye make-up remover is an absolute must! If you're also like me then you probably have that ONE fabulous eye make-up remover and never purchase anything else.

Unless, ahem....you went on holidays and forgot to pack it.

I am the worst packer, ever. Allan, along with the rest of my friends and family, find this fact really funny. My issue is that I not only overpack (I literally bring everything. For example, when we were in Toronto for Christmas I brought three winter coats) but I occasionally bring a separate suitcase for my cosmetics too. Now this wouldn't normally be an issue BUT the suitcase carrying all my clothes is MASSIVE. I have the largest suitcase available and, when it's full, I can't lift it or even wheel it around by myself. Because of my flawed packing style, you can see how I missed something as vital as eye make-up remover.

So, on our trip, I popped into a Shoppers Drug Store to find a small make-up remover but, of course, they don't sell this product in a travel size. So, I immediately began scouring the aisles looking for a brand that cried "Buy ME!" (Now, this Shoppers was very small and didn't carry all the brands that bigger stores do.) Low and behold, I found a relatively small container of the Marcelle Essentials Gentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes, on sale, AND on the recommendation of the sales person. So, I bought it.

Later that night, I pulled it out and fell in love, instantly, with the bottle and lid. It was designed very well because you could keep the lid on while getting at the product; the lid pops open and you can apply it directly to a cotton pad. Such a brilliant idea. I was in such a happy mood about the lid design that I didn't feel the burning sensation right away.

After I felt the burning feeling, I dove for the tap and rinsed out my right eye. My first thought was that I left my open and put the product in my eye, instead of on my lid. So, me being the person I am, tried the product on my left eye AND, of course, it happened again.

Conclusion, this product did not make me happy and I will not be purchasing this again. I promptly threw it away after rinsing my eyes for about 10 minutes and then, once rinsed, noticed that the product didn't even remove my eye liner.

Lesson learned. Never again will I ever forgot my trusty Sonia Kashuk eye make-up remover again! What is your go-to eye make-up remover?
