Split-End Hair Treatment
1. Only three ingredients create this powerful treatment. Add 2 Tbsp EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil), 1 egg yolk and 1 tsp honey to a small microwave-safe bowl.
2. Combine all ingredients together making sure to mix very well as the last thing you want is grainy bits of egg yolk. Then, microwave the treatment for about 8-9 seconds.
3. Spread mixture evenly over your dry hair and work in with a comb, which you will definitely need. Pay no attention to the stickiness of the treatment as it's just the honey working its magic. Once the treatment is dispersed evenly, wrap your hair in either a warm towel OR do what I did and cover up with your favorite shower cap. Wait 30 minutes and wash out (with both shampoo and conditioner.)

Why this works: Olive oil is quite possibly the best cooking essential on the market. It's extremely moisturizing without being too abrasive and it softens, conditions and improves the strength of your hair. Also, egg is a fabulous, and inexpensive, way to repair dry hair.
Once treated, my hair felt much less brittle and way healthier. Plus, it was extra shiny, even for me!! Ladies, you must try this out and tell me what you think. Happy Friday!
XO Christina
Awesome recipe! I will be trying this for sure! xo
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love the shower cap!
Ugh, even though this did make my split ends not as noticable it left my hair limp and very greasy. Gross! After re-washing my hair a couple times it's not as greasy anymore, but my hair looks as dry as it did before. Maybe it only works on some types of hair? Mine is curly, thick and very long. Too bad!
ReplyDeleteI have curly hair as well and I do it only to my ends. I braid it and let it soak in for 20 minutes and wash it off. I don't massage it through my scalp because well what happened to you happened to me!
DeleteI have very curly, long, thick, coarse hair as well! for my scalp I use a mixture of tea tree oil (just a few drops, trust me) and coconut oil, grapefruit juice (I just squeeze about half a grapefruit into it) and a tablespoon or so of lemon juice.
DeleteIt works really well to condition my scalp, prevent build up (im Italian, I get an oily scalp which creates build up) but also helps to combat the oiliness. I use it like once a month or so, if I am regular with it I can usually do it every two months!
I sometimes add other ingredients like greek yogurt, avocado, honey etc. With the tea tree oil, I don't have to worry about the oiliness making my hair gross.
Shampoo out when you are done and use conditioner as you normally would.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for letting me know! It's funny because it worked really well for my hair (thick, wavy, shorter) but I can definitely understand about the greasiness. Thanks again though for the comment and I hope something else will work for you
xo
This works soooo well for my hair. I can't believe the difference it makes (I have VERY thick, wavy long hair). I did this on holiday a few months ago, and the water at the apartment I was staying (hard water) made it difficult to wash it out but at home I have no problems - just shiny hair!
ReplyDeleteEveryone that I'd commenting has mentioned thick curly hair.. Has anyone tried this that has thin wavy hair?
ReplyDeleteThis is something I have done before.. I have thin wavy shoulder length hair and the olive oil left my hair super oily even after 3 washes in one shower. I just pulled my hair into a bun and the shower the nest day took care of it but my hair was soft. I have also used coconut oil and it washed out a lot easier with the same results.
DeleteUgh this stuff is so gross, it feels gross it smells gross. Hopefully it works
ReplyDeleteAnother miracle: Coconut oil.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother taught me this. Great-grandma is from India, so it's been passed on for generations.
It works & smells great too.
I accidentally left this in my hair for two hours instead of twenty minutes. Hey! I have five year old twins and six dogs and it was "bedtime"! Lol. Irregardless, however, the solution washed out fairly well...took about four shampoo washes not including the usual morning shower the following day. I'm 29, have fairly thin, medium length straight color-treated hair and it worked just fine. I didn't have a microwave so I placed my cooking pot in the oven for a few seconds (I was already cooking something so it was hot). I hope to use this maybe atleast once a week.... :) thanks!! Oh yes, and if you don't get all the egg white out like I didn't, when you wash your hair with hot water like I did....you may end up with some egg white snack leftover! Haha ;) oh well!
ReplyDeletei may try this tomoro but i wanna know how often should i do it like once a week or what!! .. thnx ;)
ReplyDeletei have horrible dry ends. im looking forward to trying this!
ReplyDeleteShea butter works amazingly! if you can get it pure just lather it on wet hair, put it up in a warm towel for 30-40 minutes then wash out. i haven't had split ends in months from doing this weekly/ fortnightly :)
ReplyDeleteCan veggie oil work in place of olive oil?
ReplyDeleteveggie oil is good but olive oil is better.

I'm African-America, with very thick and dry hair ends. I tried it today and my hair was so soft and curly after washing it out. I did not use a shampoo to wash it out of my hair(because I do not used shampoos), I only used conditioners. I had no problem washing it out of my hair. It was so easy and my hair loves it. Thank you, I will add this to my regiment and share it with my family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if this worked on Black hair. Thanks!
DeleteUsed on ethnic hair for centuries. For the white girls having an issue because it leaves their hair greasy I suggest u add a few drops of Evoo to ur regular shampoo. For your treatment use warm honey all over ur hair and on ur ends u can use the solution here or use black castor oil. Here (Jamaica) I get freshly made castor oil but Jamaica Black Castor Oil works well and is sold all over the US (saw it in Sally's and other hair stores) and is also sold online I believe. Castor oil makes things thick and shiny so that is why it helps ur ends heal and break/tear less. I have type 4b/4c hair and I use it on my ends. Please ensure its black castor oil. U may also use coconut oil but it must be extra virgin as well. That way ur hair is soft from the honey and ur ends are strong from the oil. U may also try raw shea mixed with ur fave oils (eg: tea tree), shea butter is the black natural haired girl's secret to soft hair so I can just imagine how awesome it would be on Caucasian hair :) Hope i've helped <3
DeleteMaybe try coconut oil instead for less greasy hair. I am going to use coconut oil in mine.
ReplyDeleteI'll give it a try. I have very thin fine non color treated hair w lots of split ends...dont have time for regular trips 2 the hair dresser. :)
ReplyDeleteTried it yesterday, and my hair indeed feels healthier :-).
ReplyDeleteI straighten my hair all the time, which is quite hard on it, so I've been looking for an easy effective way to keep it hydrated. Thanks!
I REALLY don't suggest microwaving honey. (if your using raw honey anyway)If you microwave it then your killing the awesome quality that honey posses as far as a probiotic, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal go. Even if your honey is not raw then i STILL don't suggest heating it because it could burn.
ReplyDeleteSide note: If you have never used raw honey get the opportunity to, DON'T TURN THAT DOWN! Raw is SOOO much better for you! Not just for your face though, your food too. It tastes delicious!
So I tried this, but As I have it seating in my hair I came back to your blog and I realized I used the whole egg instead of just the yolk :( Will it have the same results or will it kill my hair?
ReplyDeleteIm caucasian, I have thin wavy hair, long (goes to about the middle of my back) I have always had a problem with a greasy scalp. I cant skip a night of washing my hair. I just graduated high school (im 17) I would straighten my hair everyday wich caused me to have horrible split ends. I use coconut oil in my hair at least twice a week. I don't put it in my scalp only till about the middle but coat the ends very well. I clip it up and leave it for about 30 minutes, wash it out with tea tree shampoo and condition. You can no longer see my split ends and my hair is shinier then ever. With the benefit of it not making my hair greasy one bit! Im very happy with results and assume it should have the same effect on all hair types but I'm not totally sure. I hope I helped! (:

I use this mainly in the ends of my hair, since that is where the problem is. If you have trouble getting it out of your hair, put a bit of shampoo in your hands and rub it into the hair BEFORE going into the shower and it will come out quite easily. Then rinse and wash again like normal.
ReplyDeleteAlso the egg white that is now a leftover works great for greasy skin. Either the whole face or just in the T-zone. Put that on while the hair mask is working.
I think you provide one of best provide cosmetic lip. Thank for sharing us..........

The post says to use it on SPLIT ENDS, the end tips of your hair that are split - just fyi XD Your scalp emits oils so of course your hair would feel greasy if you use it on your scalp.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time i visit here. I found so much entertaining stuff in your blog, especially its discussion, I guess I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteCheap Hair Extensions
Just one thing to remember...I am a Hairstylist and while MOS conditioners and home remedies work...they are a short term fix...first...second most of the time you dont need it on your scalp area at all...concentrate on the ends...only ends and up to midshaft...everyone could use it...and then the wash out problem wont be so bad!!!
ReplyDeleteIm trying it now; however I totally forgot about the honey because it read about it this A.M... I hope it still works
ReplyDeleteP.S I used Coconut oil instead - it smells way better.
good information, maybe tomorrow I'll try it at home
