Today I am quite ashamed and embarassed to admit that I am from Vancouver, BC. No, I'm not embarassed that we lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to Boston (since they really and truly deserved to win) but I'm embarassed that our city's dwellers felt like causing major riots, looting and injuring other people.
Who knew that after having such a successful, and very tame, Olympic Winter Games that people would want to destory our beautiful city. I thought I should mention that multiple cars and trucks were rolled and set on fire, numerous department stores, and even some banks, had all their windows broken and hundreds of people were stealing items, and many other innocent bystanders were stabbed and injured.
No, not everyone was involved but the fact that people deliberately caused this chaos is what's bothering me.
Just wanted to share this with you all.
XO
I agree with you, Christina. A small number of people have brought shame to Vancouver.
ReplyDeleteHowever, on a brighter note, there have been an amazing number of people who went downtown today to clean up the mess the rioters left! It's also really cool to see the messages left on the boards that are covering the smashed windows at The Bay. xo
I will never understand people. But reading Brownen's comment about the people assisting with the clean up definitely made this post a bit brighter. I'm a firm believer that the good will always outweigh the bad! ♥
ReplyDeleteWow that's just terrible! I'm sure everything will get cleaned up, and back to normal soon enough. I just hope those people are punished for their actions.
ReplyDeletewow people are awful sometimes!

Steffys Pros and Cons
I am not ashamed to be a Vancouverite. I am disgusted by the actions of a few who will no doubt put a black mark on this city. I hope they nail as many of the bastards as they can, for making us feel like we need to be ashamed of where we are from, because of this.
ReplyDeleteIt was not about the game, it was about taking any opportunity to cause mayhem, which is even more sad :-(
This is so sad and disgraceful. And I thought some of our football team fans got out of hand!
ReplyDeleteIt really wasn't pretty :-(

Oh wow, it's always those rogue few who spoil it for everyone else :(
ReplyDeleteYes, unfortunately it made the news down here in Australia too...
Thank you guys so much for comments about this ordeal. As bad as the few people are that did this, Vancouver came together and cleaned up the city PLUS we've started a facebook page to identify some of the rioters.
ReplyDeleteWhew, I just had to vent I guess
xo
This is really unfortunate. I think it happened several years ago as well, correct? I don't understand why people would destroy their own city (or anyone else's for that matter). It's sad. Hopefully those that were injured will make a quick recovery. :(
